Scalability
Multiple Login Consoles
SNMPc Enterprise provides remote access consoles through JAVA or Windows based client software. Each remote user is assigned a security level and unique view of the network based on their user login. The ability to provide individual network views is useful in large corporate or MSP/ISP environments. More information can be found on the console options page.
Distributed Polling
SNMPc Enterprise lets you distribute the polling and discovery functionality to strategic points in your network using polling agents. These remote polling agents poll the local devices and only upload status changes or alerts when required. This is a very efficient way of polling networks and helps limit the bandwidth requirements of a SNMP manager.
For security all console commands are routed through the central SNMPc Enterprise server and then the appropriate polling agent. This allows SNMPc Enterprise to support multiple overlapping IP address ranges and NAT environments.
Manager of Managers
SNMPc Enterprise can be deployed as a hierarchical management system providing a single view for multiple branch level SNMPc Enterprise installations. A full peer-to-peer architecture is supported where each SNMPc Enterprise can be both a branch and top level manager simultaneously. This lets you to deploy a scalable fault tolerant management system.
Reliability
Overview
Communication networks are an indispensable part of modern enterprises. Employee and customer interaction, technical support, marketing, sales and procurement activities are all highly dependent on a secure and reliable network infrastructure. With this increasing reliance on data communications, monitoring of the network infrastructure has become more important than ever.
Live/Standby Servers
To ensure a reliable 24/7 network monitoring solution, SNMPc Enterprise supports live/standby management servers. The backup SNMPc Enterprise server continually monitors the primary server and in the event of a failure automatically takes over all network management functions. An automated failover process includes the reconfiguration of any distributed polling agents in the network. Through the standby server feature, users can continue to monitor their network if the primary system is disabled through system failure, human error or other unforeseen circumstances.
User Audit Trails
SNMPc Enterprise delivers improved security and accountability through support for user audit trails. Any user access to the management platform or configuration changes are tracked and written to a log file. Alerts are automatically generated if an intrusion attempt is detected.

Network Mapping
SNMPc Enterprise supports a multi-level hierarchical map. Each hierarchy can represent cities, buildings, or subnetworks. Imported bitmaps of geographic maps or floor plans, along with manual or automatic network placement, lets you create a layout that closely matches the actual network.
SNMPc Enterprise can automatically lay out each map network as a tree, ring, or bus topology. Each map object uses a device specific or user selected icon, and the object color indicates the device status. You can start any device specific application by double clicking map icons.
The Map Navigation Tool Window displays the map as a tree for direct selection of objects. The Navigation tree also displays the current alarm status of each subnet to quickly locate failing devices.
The map window Full Zoom feature automatically moves and zooms the view so that all devices are always visible in the window. The Pan/Zoom feature lets you select a region to zoom into from the complete set of devices in a view.
Network Monitoring
Availability and Status Polling
SNMPc Enterprise automatically discovers and polls SNMP/ICMP, WEB, FTP, SMTP, and TELNET services, as well as up to 16 user-selectable TCP services per node. Each application can be configured to match on "success strings" returned by the service. More advanced polling algorithms can be implemented for any service or device type using external custom polling applications. Along with real-time service status, SNMPc Enterprise also provides WEB-based Availability Reports with the SNMPc OnLine plug-in module.
Automatic Threshold Alarms
Once Trend Reporting is setup, Polling Agents monitor all report variables for a learning period and calculate a baseline for typical patterns.
Thereafter, the Polling Agents compare the actual polled data to the baseline and generate alarms when variables deviate excessively from the baseline. Polling Agents automatically adjust baselines as traffic patterns change. You can also manually configure alarm thresholds for any polled variable.
Alerting
SNMPc Enterprise changes the color of map objects and performs other actions based on received events. Event Action Filters select the action to take when an event occurs. An "easy event" filter option lets you to create event filters directly from log file entries.
SNMPc Enterprise offers a wide range of event actions including:
- Email, Page, SMS
- Play WAV Sound
- Execute Application
- Forward SNMP Trap
- Pop-up Alarm Window

SNMP Views & Trend Reporting
Multi-Vendor Graphical Device Views
The HubView and BitView scripting applications display a graphical image for multi-slot routers, bridges, and hubs. Device specific custom menus and mouse commands perform SNMPc Enterprise commands on the selected slot or port, or other graphical element.
SNMPc Enterprise includes device scripts for all devices that conform to standard MIBs and for dozens of private MIB devices, including Allied Telesyn, Cisco, and 3com devices. You can easily develop HubView or BitView scripts to graphically manage any SNMP device.
Real-time MIB Displays
SNMPc Enterprise supports real-time displays of MIB variable data in tabular or graphical format. Table or graph displays can include multiple devices and variables from different standard and private MIBs, including derived expressions such as Utilization, Volume, and Percent Errors. You can select any variable cells, table rows or columns, for graphical display.
MIB Browser
SNMPc Enterprise includes a fully featured MIB browser supporting SNMP v1, v2c, and v3 and can be used to get and set individual MIB variables. The MIB Browser can also read all variables supported by a device and export the variable names and values to a file.
Trend Reporting
SNMPc OnLine Web Reporting
SNMPc Enterprise integrates seamlessly with SNMPc OnLine, an advanced reporting engine with SQL database storage and a dynamic web based front-end. Flexible presentation options include Microsoft Visio Graphics, pre-canned reports, high-level summaries, and custom dashboards. Additional statistics can be collected from NetFlow/sFlow devices.

Customization
MIB Compiler
The built-in MIB compiler accepts any MIB in ASN.1 format. Many standard and enterprise Specific MIBs are preinstalled and ready to use. Once compiled, you can use MIB definitions with any SNMPc functions, including the table or graph displays and long term statistics polling.
MIB Expressions
SNMPc Enterprise supports MIB expressions to show derived information such as line Utilization. You can use any of the predefined MIB Expressions, or create your own, to automatically view interesting information in a format you can understand. You can add MIB expressions MIB source files, or create them dynamically with the MIB Expression Calculator.
Custom Tables
You can dynamically create custom tables using the MIB navigation tool window. Custom tables can be subsets of existing MIB tables, or can include variables from tables in different MIBs. You can use MIB Expressions to include derived data types such as Utilization, Volume, and Percent Errors. This allows you to create tables and reports that just contain the data that you want to see.
Custom Menus
User defined custom menus directly perform SNMPc Enterprise commands without having to select MIB objects. Custom menus can display a MIB table; edit, graph or chart any set of MIB variables; set an SNMP MIB variable; or run an application program. SNMPc Enterprise automatically enables or disables Custom Menus depending on the attributes supported by the selected objects.

Programming
The SNMPc Enterprise architecture uses a simple DLL based API that provides complete distributed management capabilities to any application. This API has a small number of common functions that operate on instances of object classes. Each object has a set of attributes that you can read and modify.
Object classes map onto functional groups, including Session, Map, Log, SNMP, MIB, Event Filter, Custom Menus, and others. Classes also exist for creating high level objects such as map views, log views, MIB tables, and MIB graphs.
You can easily create programs that run as Polling Agent, Server, or Console components.
Custom Scripting Support
SNMPc Enterprise includes a number of utilities that can be used from any scripting language to develop script based applications. The use of scripting instead of a full programming language can greatly simplify development of custom application suites and integration with existing management environments. Custom scripts can be executed on trap reception, when you double-click a map icon, from custom menus, and as custom polling applications. Scripting commands perform a variety of common functions such as device SNMP operations, and the query and configuration of SNMPc Enterprise map data. The source files for all custom scripting commands are included with SNMPc.
WinSNMP Programming Interface
SNMPc Enterprise supports the WinSNMP de-facto standard API for SNMP based programming under Windows. SNMPc Enterprise includes a runtime DLL and trap receiving program, as well as the include files, libraries and documentation required to develop WinSNMP applications.
DDE Programming Interface
SNMPc Enterprise also supports a DDE based API. You can use this API from Visual Basic programs and from many standard Windows programs such as Microsoft Excel. Commands can query the Map and Mib databases, perform low-level MIB operations, download MIB tables, and execute SNMPc Enterprise commands. HubView and BitView were both developed using the DDE API.
